MLK “SOCIAL MEDIA KING”

About: Comcast commemorated the 50th anniversary of the March on Washington and Dr. King's message of peace and unity, with a website HisDreamOurStories.com, featuring photos, video retrospectives and archival footage. This campaign shows that long before social media, there have been historical movements for social justice. It also juxtaposes Dr. King's impact as an activist back then, with how his message would be spread/shared today.

HE WAS TRENDING BEFORE THERE WAS A HASHTAG.

He had hundreds of thousands of followers back in 1963. And his words motivated others to make a difference. Comcast proudly presents His Dream, Our Stories — an interactive commemoration of the 50th Anniversary of the March on Washington and the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

Experience what it was like through more than 80 interviews with March attendees, Civil Rights pioneers and civic leaders. Plus, explore news articles, photo galleries and video biographies that forever capture the moment that inspired us all.

HE ORGANIZED ALL OF THIS WITHOUT A SINGLE TWEET.

About: Comcast understands that everyone wants to see themselves reflected in media images and stories being told. From their creative outreach programs looking for multicultural voices to diverse programming through XFINITY, the following print ads promote Comcast’s efforts with culturally relevant insight.

WHEN IT COMES TO DIVERSITY, WE DO SEE COLOR.

It’s about having your community reflected on the big screen and behind the scenes. It’s offering culturally relevant programming that entertains, but also informs and inspires dreams. At Comcast, we embrace the diversity of the communities we serve, the vendors we partner with, and the students we mentor. We see the full spectrum of possibilities. MY TV FADES TO BLACK, EVEN WHEN IT’S ON.

I can add more color to my programming by just changing the station, and not adjusting the saturation. I can get more urban networks like TV OneTM and Black Cinema On Demand. And my involvement in the Comcast Digital Connectors Program has helped me polish my digital skills and create videos that tell my side of the story. I’ve always dreamed big; now I dream even bigger. From the Comcast Digital Connectors Program in partnership with global non-profit, One Economy, to NBCUniversal’s innovative “Writers on the Verge” program, which helps prepare emerging talent for prime-time, Comcast is helping turn dreams into reality.
